"The Hobit" rubber open-toed sabot, Christian Vermonet for El Greco, 1970s.

What a great name to call this shoe - Hobit which links these shoes to the home for me. The term sabot was traditionally used when referring to the French wooden shoe or clog commonly worn by workers in factories, farms and mines as protective shoes. My mum had a red pair of rubber clogs which she kept in the garage to wear when gardening. Vermonet's The Hobit represents all the things sought in a pair of shoes, character, comfort and style.

Cool shoe. Very interesting feature of the blog.
I have a pair of these in fushia. The tag/label says: "The Habit" not Hobit. I believe it was a shoe store in NY?
